English tutor with more than 1 year of experience

Currently an undergraduate student that is undertaking a commerce degree at the University of Sydney, majoring in accounting and econometrics. I am in the process of looking for a part-time tutoring job and I am primarily interested in teaching subjects like English, Math and social sciences to children anywhere between the ages of 5 to 16. I am interested in taking a tutoring job so that I may earn some money and enhance my communication skills in a teacher-student relationship while my classes are conducted online; the coming semester will allow me to reside in Ho Chi Minh City. My educational background has always been international; it first started at the United Nations International School for elementary, Saigon South International School for middle school and high school, and finally ending with universities in both England and Australia. It is therefore clear that my education has always been influenced by the West. I have not yet attained my bachelor’s degree, but I am in the process of completing it as I am in my third and final year of commerce.

The students I have spent most of my time teaching are ones that reside in Australia. They are of Australian descent and, despite being an international, I will admit that I was more than capable in providing them with the tools they needed to improve their English skills. I also have experience in teaching university students accounting classes, conducted in English.

Was assigned to teach English to 2 to 4 children, cycling through a total of 10 different kids on a 2-3-day work schedule.  Tasked with grading student’s work, assisting colleagues with desk work (i.e., tracking and recording topics learned, books students read within the day, etc.). Also undertook tasks where I assisted 2 kids in preparing for their NAPLAN, a national exam for younger children.  Prepared lesson plans to meet goals identified in students’ individualized study plans. Conducted heavy analysis on materiality reports, comparing general ledger transactions with amounts displayed in the company’s interim and final year reports. This work was done for 4 medium-tier clients.  Tasks involved heavy use of Excel, allowing the improvement of skills in utilizing the application’s commands. Tasks also involved reading the companies’ meeting reports, contracts and agreements they have with other companies. Conducted this work for 2 corporations, where 1 was a subsidiary.  Communication with clients was also a necessity as meetings at clients’ offices were common. Research was mainly conducted on large Joint Stock Corporations in Vietnam, where the government had large holdings in these companies.  Required the application of research and excel skills to compile information about commodities’ prices, import and export volumes, suppliers and buyers in the market, into a concise spreadsheet or document.

My teaching style often involves 1-on-1 tutoring classes. However, I am also very well-versed in teaching students in a small class of 2 to 4 students at a time. However, I am open to becoming a teacher's assistant of an entire classroom so that I may gain knowledge in how to hand such areas. Usually the material I teach is provided to me and I take time to study it beforehand before I teach the students what they need.
