About the SAT
The SAT is run by the College Board and is now taken on a computer (Digital SAT) with two main sections, Reading and Writing and Math, scored 400–1600 in total. The test is adaptive: the difficulty of the second part depends on performance in the first. Students register directly with the College Board and should check test dates, locations and each target university’s requirements.
A sample preparation path
- Take a practice test to set a starting point.
- Work by skill: algebra, geometry and data for Math; grammar, vocabulary in context and reading comprehension for Reading and Writing.
- Practise under timed conditions, review every mistake and log recurring question types.
- Set a target score based on university requirements and retake if needed.
See typical tutor fees and how to choose a tutor; students on the IB or A-Level can combine SAT preparation with their main programme.
